The team comprised of three Secondary 3 students, Lydia Phua, Ow Yeong Jun Wei and Raphael Souw. Read about their achievements in the Straits Times,or read the below is the article: "Dragonfruit and turmeric had their hot pink and yellow pigments teased out of them on Tuesday. The challenge put to a team of Normal stream science students from Bartley Secondary School was to extract the hues from these plant products and make them into useable paints. The three-member team soaked the plants in alcohol or boiled them to extract the pigments, and then used the colours to paint a picture - all within an hour - to take the top prize in the 'INKpressive' category. A total of 31 schools took part in the IgNITE Science Challenge, an annual science competition for Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical) students, at the Science Centre Singapore on Tuesday." --Adapted from Bartley News & The Straits Time Bartley is not the usual secondary school. But, it is a unique value-added school with high performing culture.
Firstly, Bartley has a team of dedicated teachers that commit themselves in enhancing the educational experiences for every Bartleyan to be well developed and prepared for the future. It may be in the form of social and emotional competencies, being able to live a moral, healthy and active lifestyle, and become a confident, responsible and resilient citizen of the country. Secondly, Bartley ‘s strong belief that every student has the potential to learn and succeed. Bartley is always aiming to better provide every Bartleyan with a cohesive environment for learning to take place. It is to ensure that every student learns when teachers teach. The school is like a closely – connected community always helping each other to be a more knowledgeable person. Thirdly, in the eyes of Bartley, every Bartleyan is a resilient and responsible leader. They are able to lead oneself and others, demonstrating their passion for learning and a spirit for innovation. The students get to show their personal leadership through the 5As of Attending in school activities, being Attentive in class, having the right Attitude in learning, completing Assignments and being prepared for Assessments. In conclusion, Bartley Secondary School is the right place for every student to quest for excellence, and make a difference in life. Most importantly, every Bartleyan need live up to the school’s motto– Facta Non Verba. It means that students do not express their actions using speech, but the actions must be really done out whole-heartedly and truthfully. My school's annual E-Learning Day is schedued on 11 Apr 2012 (Wed). On this day, all students need not come to school.
Before the actual day, all student need to ensure that they do a system check on www.mconline.sg and www.ace-learning.com.sg so as to confirm that all necessary software has been downloaded in theit computer for a smooth E-learning experience. On the actual day starting at 7.30am, I first went to visit the school website www.bartleysec.moe.edu.sg to retrieve a set of E-learning lesson instructions given by teachers before logging into the respective portals to attempt the actual tasks. Only students without computer/internet access are allowed to return to school between 8am to 2pm in school uniform with his/her books in case they need to be referred during the independent learning process. However, students are strongly discouraged to return school if they manages to have computer and internet access elsewhere (e.g. relative's place). This is to realistically simulate a school closure. |
